Ethos vs APEX
APEX readers offer ~50% lower current draw, IP65+ rating, and a terminal block. Ethos is end-of-life for new firmware updates
Part Number Outline:
Example Part Number: XX##-#XX-XXX#
example: ET10-7WS-CWL1 (Standard Ethos Mullion Reader)
Example Part Number: XX-##-X-XXX#
example: AX-10-S-CWL1 (Standard APEX Mullion Reader)
Main Part Number Breakdown:
- Reader Family: ET (Ethos) or AX (APEX)
- Reader Model: ET## or AX-XX. Where the ‘XX’ indicates whether the reader is mullion, single gang, or keypad.
- Technology: For Ethos #WS Indicate if reader has LF, HF, or Mobile. For APEX ‘S’ (Summit) or ‘A’ (Ascent) indicates the same.
- Configuration: Indicates whether the reader is standard or has a custom configuration, as well as the specific iteration of the configuration.
Note: ‘X’ Identifies Alphabetical Characters. ‘#’ Identifies Numerical Characters.
*13.56 MHz = Smart, HF
125 Khz = Prox, LF

Which technology do you need?
If a job mixes legacy Prox cards with new mobile credentials, choose 7WS (Ethos) or Summit / S (APEX) so the reader supports all three radios.
Do you need 125 kHz (LF / Prox) credentials? If yes, choose 7WS (Ethos) or S / Summit (APEX). If HF + Mobile is enough, choose 6WS (Ethos) or A / Ascent (APEX).
